2016-2017 Season Press Release

The Board of Directors of AMDE is excited to announce our 2016-2017 season. We are excited to continue bringing our audiences visually stunning productions under continued leadership of Melanie S. Kregel. The company strives always to live out our vision of changing the shape of dance one dancer at a time. Working alongside Assistant Artistic Director, Heather Meeboer, and the many others that contribute choreographically to the season, this season will be nothing shy of excellent.

Back by popular demand, this season will begin with an original ballet based on the timeless classic, The Nutcracker. The Nutcracker: Suite Dreams debuted in 2013 and will be returned to the stage on December 2-4 at the Boyd Vance Theater. Each time we perform this story something new is revealed, and this year is no different. Keeping in the spirit of AMDE tradition, the audience will enjoy many genres of dance as Clara’s story is told. Featuring the masterfully trained artists of AMDE, The Nutcracker: Suite Dreams is a must-see for the entire family.

In the spring, AMDE in conjunction with Metamorphosis Dance Academy will present Sleeping Beauty. The beautifully orchestrated ballet will be performed on April 28-29 at the Boyd Vance Theater. Through the creative interpretation of AMDE’s finest artists and choreographers, the audience will be enchanted by the familiar tale and characters.

Our season will close on June 2-3 (Rain Date June 4) as we present our annual event Ballet Under the Stars at the Zilker Hillside Theater. Beginning just before sundown, this Austin tradition is fun for the whole family and a great way to kick off your summer. Audience will enjoy original works created by the resident artists that span a variety of dance styles. Whether it's your first time at a dance performance or you are a seasoned patron of the arts, you will be amazed at the talent and creativity of our artists.

Our artists also feel very strongly about bringing art to their community and continuing to educate our audience about dance. Look for them at the Bailando Dance Festival in Corpus Christi, the Round Rock Public Library, and in the new RRISD Art Integration schools throughout the season. We are very grateful for the fans and supporters we have inspired over the years. Whether you are a member of our company or an observer, we aspire to change your lives for the better. AMDE is part of a legacy in dance created by several companies, directors, teachers, and choreographers that span generations. We are committed to continuing this legacy through masterful instruction, fresh and challenging choreography, and high caliber performance experiences. Mark your calendars for a season of distinction in dance!
